MSX-BASIC 2012 Contest

Time for another contest ! If you like MSX-BASIC, this contest organized for the 5th time by our Spanish friends of Konamito is for sure something you can’t miss !

The deadline is fixed to 31 December 2012 and you’ll find all the rules on Konamito.com. Note that the goal of this contest is to use the resources provided by MSX when there’s no any drive connected ! That’s why the rules, very similar to the 2011 rules, ask for games in the CAS format.

Using of hybride coding is limited to a specific routine, whose the BASIC version is given on the Konamito website. For more advanced hybride coding, you have of course the opportunity to submit your creation to another contest !

MSX-BASIC, even with his limitations, can give good results when it’s used with talent. You can already take a look at the games created in 2006 for a Karoshi contest. In the coming months, we’ll add on this special MSXdev’ website all the games from the previous editions of the Konamito MSX-BASIC contests … and we’ll give also news about new games submitted for this 5th edition !

Experimental Sound Mini-Compo

2012 will be full with MSX contests ! After the #msxdev Compo 2012 and the classical MSXdev’12 contest, here comes a challenge for music experts, launched by MsxKun of the Spanish Paxanga team and dedicated to the internal MSX soundchips : PSG, PPI keyclick, MSX-MUSIC (as it’s present on most MSX2+ and all MSXturboR) and PCM (only available on MSXturboR). All other parts of the MSX hardware can also contribute to make special sounds !

The deadline for this mini-compo is fixed to 30 April 2012 and you’ll find all the rules on the Karoshi Boards. Note that the goal of this contest is to reveal some unexpected features of the most used soundchips in the MSX universe. It can come under the form of demos, but only the internal VDP can be supported for this little challenge !

Maybe all these experimentations will give brilliant ideas to be implemented in games. The products released in this mini-compo will be presented on the MSX blue website.

#msxdev Compo 2012 : Radish Sabre announced

A third game announced for the #msxdev Compo 2012 : Radish Sabre is a mix of action and adventure inspired by the Legend of Zelda games and will come under the form of a MSX1 Megarom of 128 KB with support for SCC and MSX-MUSIC and improved colors for MSX2.

The game was initially conceived for MSXdev’11, but the American coder commodorejohn was not sure to be ready before the deadline. So, he decided to cancel his entry, with the hope that MSXdev’12 should be the opportunity to present a finished product. As the MSXdev’12 contest is clearly not for Megaroms, he has decided to submit this promising game to the #msxdev Compo 2012.

During the MSXdev’11 contest, commodorejohn had already sent us the sticker for Radish Sabre. It is always available on this site !

#msxdev Compo 2012 : Inferno announced

A second game announced for the #msxdev Compo 2012 : Inferno is a mysterious MSX2 FU Hard Action RPG (128 KB VRAM) with MSX-MUSIC ! It’s developed by Aetherbyte, an American team who has already released impressive games for the PC-Engine system. Well, a RPG with Kung-Fu action, it could be a mix between Microcabin’s Fray and Konami’s Yie Ar Kung-Fu 2 !!!

Actually, this game is developed since at least 2 years, as it was planned for one of the Passion MSX2 contests. So we can guess that Inferno is almost finished, but it will only be available for downloading in January 2013.
