#msxdev Compo 2012

This is some relevant data about the first edition of this contest for any MSX generation, any kind of common hardware extension and any kind of software (games, demos and utilities) :

* No any official winner (due to a lack of success for the voting procedure)
* Non-official winner (poll on the MSX Resource Center) : Inferno (Aetherbyte)
* 3 MSX2 games, 2 MSX1 games and 2 demos released
* People interested by the demos can read the reviews on MSX blue :

Preliminary remark : coders interested by the publishing of their games on this website can contact me, it concerns not only the original format, but also the result of the DSK and ROM conversions as it is described for each game (with exception for Inferno, originally released in the ROM format).

01 – Inferno

02 – Pixiedust

Missing files : the MSX-DOS files (except if you download the source) – AUTOEXEC.BAT
DSK/ROM conversion tips :
- download the Pixiedust.lzh file
- unzip it with WinRar
- extract the PD.COM file
- download MSX-DOS1
- unzip this file
- extract the MSXDOS.SYS and COMMAND.COM files
- create a blank DSK image with Disk Manager
- transfer on the DSK image the files in the following order : MSXDOS.SYS – COMMAND.COM – PD.COM
- on the MSX-DOS command line, type copy con autoexec.bat, then press on ENTER (RETURN)
- type pd, then press on ENTER (RETURN)
- press at the same time on the CTRL and Z keys
- use DSK2ROM with the parameters -fc 1 to create the ROM version (mapper : Konami SCC)
Final format : MSX 64 KB ROM (mapper : Konami SCC)

04 – Burner Burst

DSK/ROM conversion tips :
- download the .zip file of the game
- unzip it
- go to the ROOT GAME sub-directory
- create a blank DSK image with Disk Manager
- transfer on the DSK image the files of the ROOT GAME sub-directory
- use DSK2ROM with the parameters -fc 1 to create the ROM version (mapper : Konami SCC)
Final format : MSX 128 KB ROM (mapper : Konami SCC)

05 – Barebone Bullets

Original format : Loose file

- download the Bbullets.lzh file
- unzip it with WinRar
- extract the BBULLETS.COM file
- download MSX-DOS1
- unzip this file
- extract the MSXDOS.SYS and COMMAND.COM files
- create a blank DSK image with Disk Manager
- transfer on the DSK image the files in the following order : MSXDOS.SYS – COMMAND.COM – BBULLETS.COM
- on the MSX-DOS command line, type copy con autoexec.bat, then press on ENTER (RETURN)
- type bbullets, then press on ENTER (RETURN)
- press at the same time on the CTRL and Z keys
- use DSK2ROM with the parameters -fc 1 to create the ROM version (mapper : Konami SCC)

This version under MSX-DOS1 does not work on MSXturboR and most MSX2+ machines. Solution :
- download the Bbullets.lzh file
- unzip it with WinRar
- extract the BBULLETS.COM file
- download MSX-DOS2.2
- unzip this file
- extract the MSXDOS2.SYS and COMMAND2.COM files
- create a blank DSK image, formatted for MSX-DOS 2.2, with Disk Manager
- transfer on the DSK image the files in the following order : MSXDOS2.SYS – COMMAND2.COM – BBULLETS.COM
- on the MSX-DOS command line, type copy con autoexec.bat, then press on ENTER (RETURN)
- type bbullets, then press on ENTER (RETURN)
- press at the same time on the CTRL and Z keys
- in blueMSX, it’s recommended to use this version with one of the following generic machines : MSX2 – MSX-DOS2 / MSX2+ – MSX-DOS2 / MSXturboR
- it’s not possible to convert this DSK file into a working ROM with DSK2ROM
Final format : MSX 64 KB ROM (mapper : Konami SCC) – does not work on MSXturboR and most MSX2+ machines

06 – Baruko

Original format : Loose files – sources are included – in the version submitted to the contest, you can find DSK and ROM files, but the DSK has a wrong title screen – BARUCO – and the ROM does not work
DSK/ROM conversion tips :
- download the .zip file of the game
- unzip it
- go to the ROOT GAME sub-directory
- create a blank DSK image with Disk Manager
- transfer on the DSK image the files of the ROOT GAME sub-directory
- use DSK2ROM with the parameters -fc 1 to create the ROM version (mapper : Konami SCC)
Final format : MSX 128 KB ROM (mapper : Konami SCC)
